What was life like before you met Jesus?

Before Jesus, I did not understand what sin was or how I was sinning. I knew I shouldn't be doing bad things, but I didn't really know why except that I didn't want to be a bad person. I did not show the fruit of the Spirit as much. I was doing good things and being kind, but when you are a Christian the reason you are kind is different and I did not understand that. The reason you live and who you live for is different. Before Jesus, I was living for myself and what I thought I should be doing to make my parents, teachers, and friends happy.

How did you meet Jesus?

I go to Veritas. Our family goes every week. I learned about Jesus there and also at home. Our family prays a lot and we do devotions. When I get in trouble, my mom or dad talks to me about sin and about forgiveness. I have learned that I sin a lot! But Jesus loves me anyway. And he loves me so much he died on the cross for me and when I pray and confess my sins to him, he forgives me. John 3:16 tells me about this. It's a popular verse but it's true. If I believe that then I show being grateful to Jesus by living a life where I sin less and love him more. I have learned about communion and how communion reminds me of Jesus's sacrifice for me. Communion helps me remember that I need Jesus and that I love him. I go to big service with Mom and Dad on Sunday morning, so I get communion every week. Mom and Dad talk to me about what it means every time.

After being saved by Jesus, what is your life like now?

I think about Jesus and how much he loves me during the week, not just on Sunday when we go to church. I also think a lot about how the Holy Spirit lives in me because I believe in Jesus and I know that this means I have the fruit of the Spirit and that, like real fruit, it can all grow in me. I try to be kinder and gentler and to have more self-control, which is really hard, but I know the Spirit helps me and so I can do it. I am learning more about prayer and how to pray and I know that it doesn't matter what I say or how I say it to Jesus, he is listening to me and loves me. He may answer with a yes right now or it might take a while. That means wait. Sometimes you wait a long time and the answer is no. Sometimes the no is right away. That is how I know that when I talk to Jesus he is responding. It's always yes, no, or wait. No matter what, I know Jesus loves me and that he gives me everything I need. 2 Corinthians 5:27 says that if I am in Jesus I am a new creation. Because Jesus died for my sins, I can be forgiven of my sins and be more like Jesus. I know I am not the same now. So, I am a new creation because of Jesus.
