What was life like before you met Jesus?

It's hard to remember what life was like before I met Jesus because I was using drugs. I used drugs and alcohol to feel happy. I wanted to feel accepted. I didn't really think I needed Jesus. I started attending Veritas, because my boyfriend, Johnny (now my husband) said God was the most important part of his life, and I wanted to feel the way he felt. When I started going with Johnny when we were dating I saw something different at Veritas and the first day there about two years ago during worship I started crying uncontrollably. I had never felt the love that I felt when I was there. I didn't want to take communion and I didn't feel comfortable singing yet.

How did you meet Jesus?

Johnny continued to invite me to attend church with him and I saw him be so consistent with his love for God and the way he cared for me. One day in Church I was reading through Romans. For God to give his only son to die for my sins is something that I couldn't imagine ever being able to do. Just knowing that he loves me that much. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” I knew I needed a savior because of how horrible I had been in my life.

After being saved by Jesus, what is your life like now?

Christ met my needs by sending my husband to give me spiritual guidance. Ever since I started going to church and learning so much about God's love for us, I've continued to see how real God is and how much my life is actually about Him. God showed me Romans 12:9-13 which says “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.” I knew that's how I wanted to live my life. I knew with God that was possible. I know now that by faith in Jesus and giving my life to him and confessing that He is the Lord of my life, I am saved. I know that I want to proclaim that I have put all of my trust in Jesus and be baptized.
