What was life like before you met Jesus?

I grew up in a Christian home and don’t really remember a time when I didn’t know about Jesus. My view of it was very work based though, like if you do the right thing then you will get to heaven. It was just a routine for me of going to church, Sunday school, and Wednesday night programming every week.

How did you meet Jesus?

When I was in middle school at FCA camp in Pella the gospel became so clear to me and I saw my need for a savior. Some of the teaching was on Jeremiah 29:11, which says “for I know the plans I have for you, say the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” This verse has stuck with me since then and shows the hope that God provides for us when we put our trust in Him and surrender our life. It hasn’t always been a smooth road since that day, but I have grown in my faith and I am ready to take this next step of obedience.

After being saved by Jesus, what is your life like now?

Christ has come into my heart and changed my view on life. It is no longer about what I do but what Christ has and is doing in me. He has provided friendships and community just when he knew I needed it. I hesitated getting baptized for a long time because I never felt like I was “perfect” or ready. I think God calls us to baptism as a step of obedience in our walk of faith and to grow closer to him. Colossians 2:12 says “for you were buried with Christ when you were baptized and with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.” I want to get baptized as a public declaration of my faith and hope in Jesus Christ.
