Responsible for keeping the church facilities clean, functional, and well-maintained to ensure a welcoming and safe environment for worship, ministry events, and daily activities. Each team member is assigned specific areas of the building to maintain but may also be asked to assist in other areas as needed.
Essential Job Functions
Facilities Cleaning & Maintenace
Ensure the church building, including worship spaces, classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas, are clean, sanitary, and well-maintained.
Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces.
Empty trash and recycling bins regularly and dispose of waste properly.
Restock restrooms and other supply areas with necessary items (e.g., paper products, soap, hand sanitizer).
Event Setup and Teardown
Set up and arrange chairs, tables, and equipment for services, meetings, and special events.
Tear down and reset spaces after events, ensuring areas are returned to their original condition.
Assist ministry teams with special facility-related requests as needed.
Required Skills & Abilities
Attention to Detail – Ability to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and organization throughout the facility.
Time Management – Capable of efficiently completing cleaning and setup tasks within designated timeframes.
Physical Stamina – Ability to stand, walk, lift, bend, and carry moderate loads (up to 50 lbs) regularly.
Basic Cleaning Knowledge – Familiarity with standard cleaning techniques, equipment, and safe use of cleaning chemicals.
Reliability & Punctuality – Consistently arrives on time and fulfills job duties dependably.
Team Player Mentality – Willingness to work alongside staff and volunteers to meet facility needs.
Flexibility & Adaptability – Ability to adjust to changing schedules, priorities, and event requirements.
Communication Skills – Able to follow instructions, report issues, and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
Commitment to Safety – Awareness of safe cleaning practices and willingness to follow safety guidelines for facility maintenance.
Integrity & Confidentiality – Demonstrates trustworthiness, particularly when working in private or sensitive areas of the church.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not required).
Previous custodial, janitorial, or cleaning experience is helpful but not required; training will be provided.
Experience in event setup and teardown is a plus.
Familiarity with cleaning equipment and supplies is preferred.
