Matthew Abraham

What was life like before you met Jesus?

Before Christ, I concerned myself with being the best at everything. I cared about notoriety and recognition, especially when it came to sports. I often found myself being concerned about many of the things of this world, such as the clothes I wear and the people I hang around with.

How did you meet Jesus?

Following graduation from dental school, my wife and I moved up to Northern Wisconsin and began our working lives. I found myself going down the wrong path. I was overworking in order to make more money to pay back student debt and, at the same time, overindulging in alcohol for fun. I was constantly seeking the desires of this world, and it led to severe anxiety and depression. My wife and I were not happy with our direction and felt we were being called to leave the situation. Since leaving Wisconsin, God has provided for us and constantly answered prayers as we put our full trust in Him. We knew that God was going to take care of us as we continued to grow in our dependence upon Him.

After being saved by Jesus, what is your life like now?

I am dependent on God for all things. I can do nothing on my own. I no longer worry about the things I used to concern myself with and instead store up my treasures in eternal things. Ephesians 2:8 is a memory verse frequently spoken in our household, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Knowing that I have eternal life not by my works but solely because of what Christ has done through sacrificing Himself on the cross. There are no words for this level of humility other than praise God.
