The Question That Changed Me | Ben Corrigan

Before Jesus Changed My Life

Before Jesus changed my life, I was in a state of falsehood thinking that just because I went to church regularly and had head knowledge that I was a good Christian. The issue was I was constantly struggling to find my purpose in life and found myself asking God through prayer why I was put on this earth. It was a me problem at the core and because I didn't have the heart knowledge I was left empty. The reason I couldn't find my purpose here on earth is I was searching in the wrong place and using the wrong words. It was never my purpose, and that was the issue, I am not here for me, I am here for his purpose. Once I was exposed to James 4:14 and realized my life here is but a mist and then vaporized I realized I had to truly give my life to Jesus and have a heart change to understand his purpose for me. I was changed from that moment on.

How Jesus Changed My Life

Once I changed my heart posture and started understanding his true purpose for me, it all started to make sense. This change of heart brought a whole new life to me, and I could see clearly that God had been trying to work through me for so long, but I couldn't see it. He is a patient God and knew it would be more impactful for me to figure this out on my own, and he was willing to wait 39 years for this moment. I made some life changes and reorganized my priorities and all of a sudden I was flooded with all the answers I had been seeking for so long. The moment that my lifelong question was answered was recently on a Sunday morning when we went through 2 Corinthians 5:20 where we are called to be an ambassador for Christ. This was life-changing and I instantly was motivated knowing his purpose for me. Through this, I have found the strength to speak boldly about Christ and have gained Christian Community from this.

My Life After Jesus Saved Me

Seeing the growth that God has provided me in such a short time truly showed me how much he has invested in my salvation and for that I have truly realized the extent of the debt that Christ paid on my behalf. He has changed my heart and I daily seek to get to know him more and to run my life pleasing to him. I have now started turning to the Bible daily for hope when life gets tough, and I am looking for answers. It grounds me and helps me know I am not alone and that all is a part of his master plan. I feel like God has filled me with the Holy Spirit and I often feel the tug on my heart to do more bold things to build God's kingdom. I feel like I have a new attitude on life and feel that is shows to others in my daily life. I have found my salivation verse to be Ephesians 2:1-10. Understanding that we are all sinners who will continue to sin and that we should be condemned to death for those sins. However, because of what was accomplished on the cross and through our repentance and promise of faith through grace we are saved and washed clean. We can now have hope that someday when our time here on earth is up we will be in the presence of God for eternity. Realizing this amazing truth helps me have the opportunity to be filled and finally available to pour out of my overflow to others.
